TO OUR VALUED MEMBERS AND GUESTS
The Club is happy to report that at a meeting of the Board of Directors held Monday 4th May 2020, a decision was made to re-open the Bowling greens for roll-ups beginning on Tuesday 12th May 2020. Visit the Bowls Page for full details.
The Coronavirus (COVID–19) and the forced lockdown of our Clubs (on the 23rd March) has created many challenges and stressful situations for everyone. We understand and appreciate just what this pandemic has created for all of us. It is important that we all comply with the advice and instructions of the Federal government Chief Medical Officer to ensure that we all come through this safely.
The Board and Management were deeply concerned upon receiving the direction from government to close the Clubs and its effect on staff, members and guests. As a result of the shut-down it was necessary to stand down over 75 employees and close the door to our 22,000 members. Knowing the difficulties our employees would suffer, with being stood down without notice, the decision was made to continue the payment of wages for all permanent, part-time permanent and casual staff for a period of 4 weeks to assist them through this crisis.
Whilst the Club is temporarily closed to our members and guests, a skeleton crew is busy maintaining the necessary administration, health and welfare of our properties and greens at both sites keeping them in readiness for the Clubs reopening. Government compliance controls are still in place, so administrative & financial tasks need to be completed each week. The loss to the Club as a result of the closure will be considerable.
The Board and Management are in regular contact planning effective ways for the reopening of our Clubs as soon as the restrictions are lifted. The Board have been reviewing advice on the method of membership renewals and the effect on the financial year and as a result have determined that the membership year will be extended until the 31st July. The bonus points on your cards will not be deleted at the end of the financial year and carry over. Some businesses may suffer difficulty during the recovery from the virus – COVID-19. East Maitland Bowling Club Ltd is in a favourable position due to the many years of responsible management of the Clubs affairs.
It is the sincere wish of the Board and Management that this crisis will pass in the foreseeable future. We are committed to the health and safety of all our members, guests and employees, and as always, your health and safety remains our highest priority.
Whilst complying with all safety requirements and the authority of government, our famous restaurants Billabongs at Banks Street and The Valley at Tenambit Street are both available to provide takeaway meals. Menus are available on their Facebook pages (Billabongs Restaurant or The Valley Restaurant by Chef Jordy). To order please contact Ly at “Billabongs” on 4934 5590 or 0439 990 268 or “The Valley” on 4033 1134 or 0411 609 522. The clientele who have made use of the meals provided have spoken very highly of their quality and service.
This Easter was certainly different for us all and we hope all our valued members and guests made the best of the current circumstances and enjoyed Easter. We encourage all members to check in on loved ones, friends and neighbours during this difficult time as this lockdown can be very lonely for those who live on their own but please continue to adhere to the social distancing guidelines that are in place so that we can all stay healthy and hopefully return to a sense of normality sooner rather than later. A member asked me on Easter Monday if I knew when the Club would re-open, I stated unfortunately I didn’t know. He promptly stated that when you do you won’t have enough staff to service the crowds. I hope he is right.
We wish you and your families good health.
